Member Spotlight: Bronwen M.
Here’s our first member profile of the year. Enjoy getting to know Bronwen!
What is your first quilting memory?
I think it would have to be watching my mum hand quilt and wondering how she got those stitches so tiny or going to help set up her booths at shows.
What are 5 (or so) words that would describe your dream fabric?
hmmm… Colorful, birds, dots, swirls and interesting graphics…I guess that would make one strange print.
What is the finished quilt you are most proud of?
Probably my most recent one as I came up with it on my own and decided on the quilting pattern. It was a gift for one of my sisters and I decided to figure out a way to best use a fat quarter pack I had gotten. I used the Avalon pattern from “Material Obsession” by Kathy Doughty and Sarah Fielke and modified it.
What new technique or pattern is highest on your list to learn or do?
Since I am still what I consider a beginner, I’d really like to work on my free motion quilting… I find it a little scary. I’d also like to push myself this year into just trying more new things, patterns or techniques. New Year, so I guess it’s a good resolution.
What is your favourite moment as a guild member so far?
I honestly just love the meetings, I come away every month totally insprired by an amazing group of people. I also really enjoyed the Retreat I went on in October, it was great to be around so many creative people.
What do you spend your days doing, other than quilting?
Mostly working; but in my free time, I embroider, I’m learning to knit, and I’m dreaming about renovations and working on my lack of cooking skills.
What kind of sewing machine(s) do you have?
A Janome 415 and an old White Superlock serger.
Pretend it’s a cold winter day and you’re spending it snuggled up on the couch with your favorite quilt…What are you eating and/or drinking?
Probably hot cocoa and crackers with blue cheese, the moldier the better!
