Here at the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild, we are very lucky to have many talented members. Sonja Callaghan of Artisania.ca is one of those amazingly creative individuals and she designs all sorts of paper-piecing patterns. She recently created a pattern for the VMQG logo and has generously shared it with all of us for free. Our logo was designed by Cynthia Frenette of Green Couch Designs (Cynthia is another super-creative person who is co-leader of the Fraser Valley Modern Quilt Guild). Sonja tells us that ever since she saw the wonky shapes of the VMQG logo, she’s been meaning to create a pattern for it.
Amy was the first one to piece the logo! (image by Amy)
Here it is! VMQG Logo Pattern (pdf)
Suggested Robert Kaufman Kona cotton colours:
- medium grey
As a finishing touch, we suggest that you use white perle cotton or embroidery floss to add the stitches from the logo. If you’re a perfectionist like Amy, you can even count the stitches to make sure they match the logo!
With this pattern and some knowledge of foundation paper piecing, you’ll be able to create your own ten-inch version of our logo in fabric! If paper piecing is a new technique for you, you can find both photo and video tutorials on Sonja’s blog. If, in the process of making our logo, you get hooked on paper piecing, check out Sonja’s shop for more of her quirky patterns!
