Felicity has a fun and photo-filled meeting recap post scheduled for tomorrow, so I thought I’d get a bit of guild business in before you get distracted by the pretty photos!
NEW MEETING LOCATION
The most important item is that we’ll be holding our guild meetings in a new location starting in the new year. Our Monday, January 21st meeting will be the first one at our new location, the Oakridge Seniors’ Centre at Oakridge Centre at the SW corner of Cambie St and W 41st Ave, Vancouver. See our meetings page for information on parking and directions. See you there!
Welcome, new members!
We had eight new members sign up at our November meeting (the most ever!)! We welcome all of you to the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild and look forward to getting to know you!
We’ve got lots of fun events coming up in the new year! If you missed the meeting (or were enjoying the many treats during the break and didn’t make it to the sign up table), you can still sign up!
1) Friday night sew-ins
We’ll be having regular Friday night sew-ins on the second Friday of the month at Holy Trinity Church in Vancouver. January 11th*, February 8th and March 8th, 2013 are confirmed. 6:00-11:00pm, $10 ahead/ $15 day of. Email Holly at email@example.com to register.
*there will be a myVancouver tv crew at the January 11th sew-in doing interviews and taping us quilting. We’ll be asking for people to bring in some finished projects to share for backdrops. They’re looking for 3-4 people to interview about the guild. If you’re willing to be interviewed, let Holly know!
2) Joint Fraser Valley/Vancouver MQG sew-in/meet-up
Get to know members of our closest modern quilt guild by coming to our Saturday, January 19th joint sew-in with the Fraser Valley MQG at the Surrey Central Library! 10:30am-4:30pm, cost $10 ahead/ $15 day of. This is the day we’ll be swapping items for the FVMQG/VMQG Travel Swap, so make sure you find a way to get your handmade goods out to the meet up if you’re not going to be there. Email Amy at firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
3) Gee’s Bend-inspired quilt top workshop with Paul Krampitz
Join Paul for a workshop on creating an improv-pieced quilt top! We still have spaces in this workshop on Sunday, February 3rd, 2013 from 9:30am-3:30pm at the Seniors’ Lounge in Kensington Community Centre. Cost is $50 for members. Contact Elke at email@example.com to register.
4) Exhibition of VMQG quilts at the Northwest Quilting Expo
Our guild has been invited to show our quilts in a special exhibit at the Northwest Quilting Expo in Portland, Oregon in September, 2013! We’ll be sharing more information about the show in the new year. At this time, we’re looking for a couple members who are willing to take a week-long vacation to Portland in September to deliver and return our quilts as well as take in the show! Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested.
