Program: February’s program will feature a presentation on colour from local fibre artist, Barbara Shelly. Barbara will provide a brief introduction to colour theory and then help us begin to put this lesson into practice by discussing the use of colour in a few sample quilts brought in by VMQG members.
Here is a bit more about Barbara:
From her studio overlooking Indian Arm, artist Barbara Shelly creates sculptured tapestries and art quilts. Her work is exhibited in international galleries and commissioned for private collections.
She has created over 50 public works of art in the past 25 years, including the Vancouver Street Banners, the West Concourse of Canada Pavilion for EXPO 86, the lobbies of the latest Hilton Hotel and downtown YWCA. In 1991 she created the monumental set of 30′ banners for the Canadian Chancery in Washington, DC.
Following a distinguished teaching career at UBC and Langara College, Barbara Shelly chairs the Advisory Board for the Textile Arts Program at Capilano College, and the Vancouver Street Banner Committee. She also teaches specialty courses, including MISSA (Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts).
We have a few spots remaining in Paul’s upcoming workshop. If you would like to register, please contact Marnie and Elizabeth at firstname.lastname@example.org .
