Upcoming Trunk Show featuring Natalie Skinner
August 17, 2020 Meeting

The VMQG is pleased to welcome Natalie Skinner to our monthly meeting on Monday, August 17th.  Natalie will be sharing her work and process with us through a virtual trunk show.

Natalie is a self-taught quilter of over 20 years.  She made her first quilt while in university and has never looked back!  She enjoys all facets of quilting and loves the challenge of learning new techniques.

She likes to have her hand in every step of the quilt making process – preferring to design her own quilts, either improvisationally, or with graph paper and a pencil.

She has had quilts juried into QuiltCon (2018, 2019), Quilt Canada (2018, 2019), and Grand National (2019), and has had quilts published in the “Curated Quilts” quarterly journal. She is a member of the Victoria Modern Quilt Guild and her instagram handle is @natalieskinnerquilts.

Modern Minimalism: Lessons from Art & Architecture
IG @third_floor_quilts

This lecture is presented in conjunction with Vancouver MQG, Victoria MQG and Calgary MQG.

We’re excited to announce Teresa Duryea Wong of Third Floor Quilts will be joining us on August 20 at 6pm.  Teresa began her career as a journalist, and now uses her writing and communication skills to share her quilt knowledge.  From this month’s talk, you’ll walk away with memorable concepts for how to create stunning minimalism in quilts. The art of Frank Stella, Sol Lewit and Agnes Martin, plus architects Maya Lin and Japan’s Tadao Ando, will inspire and inform the discussion on how to transfer their best concepts into both quilt design and the quilted line. Two quilters who exude the discipline and focus required to achieve true minimalism will be featured. One with an Eastern aesthetic, Yoshiko Jinzenji, and one with Western roots, Carson Converse. Teresa will explain how each of these artists and architects employ the act of reduction, with color, scale, shape, and line to achieve sublime minimalism. This lecture is presented in conjunction with the Victoria MQG, Calgary MQG and Vancouver MQG.

Attendance is free for all guild members.
