This month we are swinging to the opposite end of the spectrum from the precise foundation paper-pieced paper planes to free-form cut and sew raw edge applique circles.

You will need:

  • 8″ x 8″ background fabric in natural or similar toned warm-white or cream
  • Various solid coloured scraps
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or fusible interfacing
  • Thread in warm-white or beige

Cut out circular shapes in different sizes and colours – freehand! Then play with composition on your background fabric. Once you have something you like, secure your pieces with either a little glue stick or fusible interfacing, and then stitch around the edge and around until it’s all secure. Keep going until you are satisfied. It’s okay if it look scribbly.

Once they are pieced together the winner has all sorts of creative licence for the quilting: Leaves and stems? Pebbles? Geometric?

Every block entered is one chance to win.
