What’s happening? There will be 140 modern quilts on display. We invite you to support our members by voting for your favourite quilts. We have 3 beautiful, handmade Viewer’s Choice ribbons to award on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. (voting closes at 2:00 pm) as well as one ribbon for the favourite Modern Mini Challenge quilt.

Other ways you can participate include purchasing a $2 raffle ticket on our beautiful charity quilt in support of Growing Chefs or buy a cute VMQG logo button at our entrance or exit table. Don’t forget to leave some time to visit our community craft table and create your own modern mini quilt as fabric collage on paper!

See you there!

Showcase 2018 Registration is OPEN!

Hey VMQG members: exciting news! Quilt show registration opens today and runs until midnight June 30th, 2018. Please read through this post before you click on the registration link below.

Current members in good standing are now invited to register up to 3 quilts for our second Modern Quilt Showcase happening August 25 & 26th at the Pipe Shop venue in North Vancouver. If your membership has lapsed, please renew and pay up BEFORE entering any quilts as you will need your membership number in order to complete the online registration form.

To help fund our show, each person is asked to pay a $20 registration fee (this covers up to 3 quilts). This fee includes 2 tickets for the show, which you may use or gift/sell to someone else. Every guild member, including show volunteers, will require a ticket to enter the show. Pay the $20 by cash or cheque at the guild meetings after you’ve registered your quilt(s).

You may register 1, 2, or 3 quilts. Please indicate your order of preference on the form, in case we are unable to hang all registered quilts due to space constraints. Everyone is guaranteed their 1st choice quilt will hang in the show. A “Modern Mini Challenge” quilt counts as 1 of your entries. Please see this post for challenge quilt information.

A full colour photo of the entire front and back of each quilt is required. You’ll be prompted to attach a digital photo from the picture files on your computer when you fill out the form. PLEASE NOTE: this option is only available to people who have a gmail account due to a glitch with Google forms. If you do not have a gmail account, fill out the appropriate registration form (link below) and follow photo email instructions on the form, or bring your own colour 4 x 6 photos (printed on photographic paper) to the May or June meeting.

NEED HELP? We’ll have volunteers at the May & June meetings to help photograph your quilts and/or complete the online forms with you, starting at 6:30 p.m. We’ll even have hard copy forms you can take home and return in June, if you like. To complete a registration at the guild meeting, please bring the following:

  1. Your quilt(s)
  2. Quilt size, name, brief description for show label
  3. Correct spelling of any design credits (quilter name, pattern, workshop, book…etc.)
  4. $20 cash OR cheque

PLEASE NOTE: You only need to bring quilts to the meeting if you require photography assistance.

VMQG – LMQG Swap!

Who is up for swapping with the lovely members of the London Modern Quilt Guild? While I was in London in July, I met some super fun gals who were “dead keen” to swap with us! We decided that small and light would be the order of the day since swap items would have to ship across the Atlantic, so we’re going for needlebooks.

(woolfelt embroidered needlebook by Poppyprint)

The swap will be blind, meaning we’re not making for a specific person. This leaves you to create something you’ll enjoy making in any colours or design of your choosing. Please consider we’re swapping with a modern guild and let that guide your fabric/design choices. Amy has created a Pinboard with a gazillion ideas here: http://pinterest.com/amydame/needlebooks-and-sewing-kits/ For the purposes of this swap, we are sticking to simple needlebooks only, not full-blown sewing kits. This way shipping costs will be kept to a minimum and everyone will receive a comparable swap gift. Please do NOT put any needles in your book!

The swap is limited to approximately 20 and so far we’ve got 18 signed up so if you want in, be sure to put your name on the list at the September meeting.

Completed needlebooks (wrapped in brown paper) are due at our November meeting). If you sign up, please don’t disappoint someone in London by flaking out – bring a needlebook to the November meeting or arrange for a friend to bring it for you if you can’t make it.
