Meeting Reminder: Outdoor Meeting, Monday, July 16, 2018

This is a reminder that our next meeting will be on Monday, July 16th, 2018!

It’s time for our annual outdoor meeting!  We will not be meeting at the Unitarian Church but will meet at John Hendry (Trout Lake) Park.  (I think it was formerly known just as Trout Lake Park).  We are meeting here so that we can enjoy the summer weather, weather permitting.

The forecast is currently showing a high of 26C on Monday with no chance of rain, however the weather changes quickly in Vancouver.  Watch out for an email and/or a Facebook post that will go out at 12pm at the latest should the weather look not too enticing!!!

As with every year, family is welcome as it will be a more casual meeting.  Please feel free to bring some tasty treats to share AND/OR come early and have a lovely dinner!  Again, weather permitting.  A member of the executive will be at Trout Lake at 6pm to scout out a location.

Upcoming Events:

Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild Modern Quilt Showcase: Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26, 2018 at the Pipe Shop Venue at the Shipyards, 115 Victory Ship Way, North Vancouver

Meeting Reminder – Monday, June 18th, 2018

Our former VMQG member and Executive member, Stacey Day, has recently launched a fabulous new book, Child’s Play Quilts.  We are pleased that Stacey will be our guest speaker at our June meeting and will be doing a trunk show and book signing for us.

Stacey has been published in many magazines, including American Quilter, McCall’s Quilting, Modern Quilts Unlimited and Quiltcon Magazine.  She was a lecturer and teacher at Quilt Canada this past weekend.  Stacey also designs quilts for Tula Pink and will be teaching alongside Tula on a quilting cruise this August.

At the meeting Stacey will have copies of her new book for purchase for $30 cash or $31.50 via Square.

Also remember that the June meeting is the last time to register your quilts in person for the VMQG Modern Quilt Showcase which will be held in August.  See blog post regarding registration details here.

The quilt show committee members will be available at the meeting to take photos of the quilts for you at the meeting if you aren’t able to get your own pictures (if you want to take advantage of this, please bring your quilts).  If you miss the meeting you are still able to register your quilt online until the end of June.

June Meeting with Stacey Day – Early Reminder

I wanted to give all members early notification about our June program.  Our former member and Executive member, Stacey Day, has recently launched a fabulous new book, Child’s Play Quilts. (She is still a member of the MQG and FVMQG but moved too far away to attend our meetings on a regular basis with all she has going on).

Stacey has been published in many magazines, including American Quilter, McCall’s Quilting, Modern Quilts Unlimited and Quiltcon Magazine.  She will also be lecturing and teaching at Quilt Canada in Vancouver in May.  Stacey also designs quilts for Tula Pink and will be teaching alongside Tula on a quilting cruise this August.  You may or may not know that Stacey designed this quilt…. Wow!!

We are pleased that Stacey will be our guest speaker at our June meeting and will be doing a trunk show for us.  If you had planned to buy her book, perhaps wait until June and buy it directly from her as she will be bringing copies to our meeting.  If you have already purchased it, I am sure she will be happy to sign it for you at the meeting.

In the meantime, you can visit her at https://staceyinstitches.com/

We are looking forward to hosting you Stacey.

Update: Stacey tells me that she will be charging $30 cash for the book.  She also accepts Square but they will be $31.50 if you pay by Square.
