July – Scrappy Striped Blocks

Happy July everyone! We are taking it summer-easy with the next block lotto challenge: Bijou Lovely Design’s stash-busting, stripy wonders.

July block challenge

These blocks can be arranged in so many ways! Blocks and photos by Niki Storr

Dig through your leftover strips, chain-piece (always!), and the more blocks you make, then the more you can mix & match the sides. The more blocks you enter, the more chances you have to win the whole block lotto shebang at the August VMQG meeting. And, they are a good sized block, so I’m hoping the winner will have enough to get a bed-sized quilt out of this one.

Quick instructions: Sew your strips together until you have a piece big enough that it can be trimmed to a 12” square. Cut on the diagonal. Sew mismatched sides back together. Voila! Done! Repeat!

Just sayin’: I got a bit improv with some of my strips and found these blocks look better when the strips are the same width across.

One Response to July – Scrappy Striped Blocks

  1. I am the lucky one who won last nights July Challenge, so thanks to the VMQG and everyone who spent time making the Scrappy Striped blocks!
It’s been a long time since I have done a “Scrappy Quilt” and am VERY excited to get to work on this one. There are so many beautiful fabrics in all the dozens of blocks and will be such fun to work with as everywhere I look there will be a new colour and design…. what could be better!
