Monday, March 16th Meeting Reminder

Please note that the Executive of the VMQG will be monitoring updates from Vancouver Coastal Health and the Provincial Government relative to COVID-19. We will advise via email Facebook and Instagram pages should it be necessary to make the difficult decision to cancel our meeting. We request that members please refrain from bringing food to share at the March meeting and that members please stay home if they are sick or have any underlying health conditions that may be impacted from respiratory illness
 
PROGRAM:  For March a review of QuiltCon 2020 from VMQG folks who attended the Show last month in Austin, Texas. Arita, Linda,  Marnie, and Niki will share their highlights from the exhibitions, lectures, and workshops as well as provide their impressions on some of the themes and
trends in modern quilting.
 
 
Starring You – Best in Show at QuiltCont 2020 by Canadian Peter Byrne
 
VMQG Mugs and Fat Quarter Bundles:  We will have a limited supply of mugs with the new logo on them for purchase at the meeting.

March Meeting Details
What:  Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild Meeting
When: Monday, March 16th
Where: Hewett Hall, Unitarian Church of Vancouver, 949 W 49th Ave, Vancouver (at NE corner of W 49th Ave and Oak Street)
Parking: Free parking is available in the parking lot. Street parking is also available.
Transit: The 49 and 17 buses run along 49th Ave and Oak Street respectively. The Canada Line has a station at Cambie and 49th.
Guests: If you are a guest, we’d appreciate it if you would email membership@vancouvermodernquiltguild.ca to RSVP so we can know to expect you. Your first meeting is free and subsequent meetings are $10 until you become a member. UNLESS there is a special guest speaker, there may be a separate entrance fee even for first time guests.

What to Bring:
-Completed membership form and $60 membership fee if you haven’t joined for the 2019/20 year.
-Guests fee ($10), completed membership form if you wish to join.
-Your name tag (you can’t win a door prize without it!)
-Cheque or cash to purchase mugs or FQ Bundles
-Block lotto block
-Twoonies if you would like to register for the WIP program.
-Modern Show and Tell Quilts
-Door prizes. Bring donations to the meeting and sign up at the door prize table.

Monday, January 20, 2020 Meeting Reminder

Meeting reminder of VMQG’s First meeting of the New Year and New Decade!

Program: The January meeting program will be facilitated by Niki and will feature the reveal and return of the 2019 Round Robin quilt tops to participants.  We will enjoy seeing these tops for the first time along with “the Robins” and hear about the inspiration for their center blocks and colour choices. It is always motivating to see how these monthly challenges are interpreted by participants.

Gee’s Bend-Inspired Quilt Workshop with Paul Krampitz

Join us for a day of creativity and exploration as Paul shares his approach to improvisation techniques that draw inspiration from the quilters of Gees Bend.

Cost: $60 for members, $65 for non-members (space permitting)

Monday, May 20th meeting reminder

May’s program will be Beyond the Napkin: other free tools for Quilt Design by our own Marnie Burnham.  She will be reviewing some free tools, accessible from your home computer, that can be used to experiment with quilt design including graph paper generators, excel and websites such as Pattern Jam and Prequilt.  

Here’s some things to remember for the meeting!

A handmade name tag makes it easier for people to get to know you plus you need it to win door prizes. 

Bringing snacks to share or something for the door prize table is always appreciated.

If participating in the block lotto bring completed blocks.
