Usually this time of year we do a block challenge with a Halloween theme, but not this year. No cute bats, cats, or witches’ hats — it’s time to face your real fears by plunging into your fabric vaults and digging out your scariest, ugliest patterns. Yes, that’s subjective, so let your gut decide what is dated and/or weird and see what happens. I’m calling it slab vomit: the purge of the fabric that haunts us.

The plan is to make slab blocks a la Cheryl Arkison’s Missing U pattern from her book  Sunday Morning Quilts. She references it on her blog http://naptimequilter.blogspot.ca/2013/06/slabs-for.html but there are really no detailed instructions: Start with one piece and sew pieces around it until desired size is achieved.

Please aim for 10″ squares, but perfection is not required. One block = one chance to win the lot.

And, remember to hashtag your creations #vmqgblocklotto.
