This month’s block lotto will be to upcycle an orphan block or maybe two and make a mini quilt.  The winner of the blocks will be able to put them together using the quilt as you go (QAYG) method.  It touches on the modern quilt idea of improvisational quilting.

The finished block will be 15” square.

QAYG is also called Pot Holder Quilts.   Here is an article from Cassandra Beaver on making a Modern Pot Holder Quilt.  https://weallsew.com/making-potholder-quilts-modern/.

There are many YouTube videos on how to do QAYG.  Here is one from Karen Brown of @justgetitdone.

Instructions

Find an orphan block from your stash. Add border or another orphan block to make approximately 15.5” square.

Add backing, batting and then quilt as you like.

Trim block to 15” square and sew a 1/4” stay stitching line around the block.
