2016 Showcase Gallery

In August 2016, the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild kicked off the first VMQG Showcase, featuring 140 quilts made by the members of the VMQG on display at the beautiful Pipe Shop building located in the historic Shipyards at Lonsdale Quay, North Vancouver. The building’s heavy timbers, high ceiling and abundance of natural light made it the perfect venue to celebrate the fine work of the Guild’s modern quilters, build our community and educate the public about modern quilting. There were modern quilts ranging in size from mini to king-size quilts with a stunning array of modern design and quilting techniques. In addition to the work shown, the Guild offered visitors of any age to play with fabric and explore their creative skills to make fabric cards, free of charge. The Showcase took place on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28th, and will be held biannually moving forward.

Special thanks to Krista Hennebury for her vision and coordination, and to the team of volunteers for their dedication and work to make the show a spectacular success.

Berene created this project in response to the tragic attack that occurred at the Lynn Valley Library in North Vancouver, BC, on March 27, 2021. A horrific event in which a young woman lost her life, and six others (5 of them woman) were injured, some with long term injuries.

The Lynn Valley LOVE Project is Berene’s latest collective healing project, and invites you to participate! You can do so by contributing a little creativity towards the collaborative installations.

There are two ways to participate:

This will be an installation of a collection of banners with messages of LOVE and HOPE made by members of the quilting community.

Sewing level: Intermediate. Previous quilting experience is required.

These banners will be pieced using quilting techniques.

There is more information and instructions on how to make the banners on Berene’s blog: Click Here

These are to be dropped off / mailed to the LYNN VALLEY LIBRARY by JULY 7 at the latest.

2. A community Project of a GIANT “LOVE” Cross Stitch:

This is designed for the general community or anyone wishing to participate.

Sewing level: EASY – no previous experience required.

Contributors are asked to hand stitch a felt X onto a piece of white cotton fabric, using embroidery thread and a simple running stitch, with this downloadable pattern.

The blocks will then be assembled into a large “LOVE” cross stitch design which will be installed in the library breezeway.

There is more information and instructions on how to make the X’s on Berene’s blog: Click Here

These are to be dropped off / mailed to the LYNN VALLEY LIBRARY by JUNE 15 at the latest.
